Today the Macon Grizzlies traveled to Roswell and faced two very good North Atlanta teams; the Fellowship Christian Academy Paladin travel team and Roswell Youth Lacrosse Juniors.
The morning started out well for the Grizzlies holding the Paladins to a score of 2-1 at the half. Steve Durkee scored the Grizzlies' only goal of the game in the 2nd quarter. Durkee scored off the rebound from two Jack Kelly shots. The defense played well and the score remained close (4-1) through the end of the 3rd. However, the pace of the game caught up with the Grizzlies and the Paladin added 2 more goals in the final frame. Nick Dorogy was stellar once again for the Grizzlies stopping 25 of 31 shots.
The second game featured Macon versus Roswell LAX. The Roswell team just over powered an already fatigued Grizzly team, scoring 3 goals in the first 4 minutes of play. The Grizzlies quickly found out what 4-5 years of experience can do for the cohesiveness of a team. The Roswell team tallied 9 goals through the game and shelled Dorogy with 28 shots, many from point blank range. Highlights, aside from the play of Dorogy, included Luke Rusterucci's first goal as a Junior and 2 goals by Jack Kelly. Rusterucci scored his goal while taking a vicious hit from a Roswell defenseman. However, he hopped right back up and continued to play.
Chalk this weekend up to experience and let's move forward. The Grizzlies get to stay home next weekend and are currently scheduled to play Henry County. The Lightening are currently scheduled to play at 12:00 and the Juniors at 1:15. At this point, it is expected that all games will be played on the Mercer University game field. Stay tuned for information.
See everyone at practice Monday at 5:30.
